Moarhof on the Latemar

A farmhouse steeped in history

Our present house was first mentioned in 1485 under the name Hof zu Holdernach. The farm was then donated to the parish of Eggen and 2/3 of it was given to a tenant. Since then, the tenant has been responsible for entertaining travelers and managing the farm. Over the years, the farm was passed from one hand to another.

In the 19th century, the Mair/Mayr family bought the farm. They also changed the name to “Moar”. The name Moar originally stood for estate manager Moarhof. The Moarin was the Moar's wife.

The Pichler family

Lives on the farm today

Franz Pichler bought the Moarhof in 1934 and moved in with his family.

The farm is still family-owned today, offering hospitality to travelers and taking care of the farm. Not long now until the 100th anniversary!

Our history is moving and marked by strokes of fate. Nevertheless, we look to the future with confidence. We want to lead our house into the coming decades and perhaps the next generation will look back on the history of their ancestors with pride.
