Viktoria's Favourite Foodi Hike at the Latemar
Latmor Alm
In our blog “Moar’s Secret Tips”, we regularly share special places from our home region, the Eggental Valley.
Today’s hiking tip comes from Viktoria, our in-house foodie and hiking enthusiast. Viktoria loves hikes where not only beautiful views await at the end, but also a delicious mountain hut.
One of her favourite huts in the Eggental Valley is Latmor Alm, run by Klemens. This small and cosy alpine hut is located on the Latemar meadows at the foot of the Latemar mountain group and can be reached from several starting points. For this tour she chose the ascent from the Karer Pass.
The menu features regional dishes that change with the seasons. Small, refined and full of flavour.
The hike to Latmor Alm
Our tour starts at the Paolina parking area at Karer Pass. From there we follow trail no. 6 towards Lake Carezza.
Along the way we pass a suspension bridge, a perfect spot for a first photo. Shortly afterwards we reach Lake Carezza, one of the most famous photo spots in the Dolomites. The emerald-green lake with the Latemar in the background is simply stunning.
After the photo session we continue towards Mitterleger via trail no. 22. This is a good place for a short break before continuing the hike.
The next section leads us along the Labyrinth Trail (trail no. 20). While crossing this fascinating area, the path winds between huge rock formations. Sometimes over them, sometimes underneath them. You are walking right at the foot of the Latemar towers, which makes this part of the hike truly impressive.
Once we leave the labyrinth behind, we follow the signs towards Latemar Pass, until we reach the junction leading to the Latemar meadows.
From there it is only a short walk to our destination Latmor Alm.
A well deserved break at Latmor Alm
Once you arrive, the reward awaits. Latmor Alm is a charming mountain hut with stunning views of the Rosengarten, Schlern and the Latemar towers.
Right next to the hut you will also find the Eggental Mountain Cinema, a scenic viewpoint with deckchairs, perfect for another memorable photo.
And then comes the best moment of the day:
Time for lunch.
Viktoria’s personal tip:
The Kaiserschmarrn at Latmor Alm is legendary and the perfect reward after the hike.
Our advice: reserve a table in advance, especially on sunny days when the hut is very popular.
Maybe we will see you afterwards at the Moar. I’m curious to hear if you enjoyed the Kaiserschmarrn at Latmor Alm as much as I did.
Yours, Viktoria
